The un-expected death of well-known painter, engraver and teacher Mr. AntonisApergis who died at the age of 80, honored for his works at the Museum of Neohellenic Art Museum in Rhodes.
Antonis Apergis was born in 1938 in Athens. From 1958 to 1962 he studied at the School of Fine ARTS in Athens, with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) painting with Mr. Yannis Moralis and engraving with Mr. Konstantinos Gramatopoulos.
From (1966-1970) Antonis Apergis again with a scholarship (IKY) continued his studies with mosaic and fresco at the Fine Arts School in Paris, with his teachers R. Licata and Berthole.
His paintings, as well as his engraving, during this era moved in a direction with purely personal ideas and visions which played a key role in his life, an idiom that combines descriptive and imaginative essentialsof plastic and color values, bimorphs and geometric themes. Despite the fact that most of his painting sengage with linear elements, a major role produced colors that submitted to the inner content of his paintings.
His work was presented in numerous solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki and also took part in many group exhibitions in various cities in Greece and abroad, as in Rome, Beirut, Paris and Chicago, also honored with various awards and prizes and taught for many years painting (draft – colour – composition) in the school of Arts & Works Maintenance School of Art Institute of Athens, and dealt with theater props, with illustrations of books and periodicals.
A remarkable exhibition on show NOW until 30th September, at The New Wing of the Nestoridios Melathrou museum located in 100 "Hundred Palms", central town of Rhodes.
